Introduction

Soon after Independence , a few people interested in education realised the need of a school in a remote village called Banshihari. As a result of their unfailing endeavour Bansihari Middle School was set up in 1952. It was gradually that this school grew up to be a Junior High School in 1957 and High School in 1960. In 1966 the school was uplifted to XI class or old Higher Secondary with Arts and Science Streams. It was in 1980 that Bansihari High School came up to its present status - that of a full fledged Higher secondary School with Arts and Science Streams.

Those philanthropic people whose "tireless striving" helped to setup the school were Santimoy Sengupta, Dr. Dwijaraj Bhushan Chakraborty, Abdul Hakim, Jamiruddin Sarkar, Jagatbandhu Kundu, Parbati Charan Sinha, Mahendra Nath Singha, Jolekha Bibi and above all Surendra Kumar Ghosh who was the Founder Headmaster and Swaraj Ranjan Sengupta, the Founder of the School.

When the need for land for a school building was felt, people like Pohati Bibi, Md. Rahimuddin and Jagatbandhu Kundu donated their land generously.

Motilal Chakraborty was the first Headmaster of the Junior High School while Md. Yahia became the first Headmaster of Bansihari High School.

The school is located only a furlong away from the State High Way that connects Balurghat and Malda and is almost adjacent to the river Tangon.

The school has a large playground that also serves to cater to the needs of games and sporting events of the locality.

Bansihari High School has a Boys’ Hostel and very recently a grant of Rupees 99Lakhs has been sanctioned by the Minority Department , Dakshin Dinajpur for the purpose of setting up a hostel for the minority girl students.

The Vocational stream run by the WBSCVE & T was introduced in 2006.

At present there are 54 teachers and non teaching staff including the Vocational Staff .

There are around 2700 pupils from classes 5 to 12. The school provides separate labs for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer. There are also separate toilets for boys, girls, teaching and non teaching staff. Drinking water facilities are also provided for everyone .

This year the school celebrates its “Diamond Jubilee” on 11th , 13th , 14th and 15th February with a colourful procession and cultural function organised jointly by the existing , outgoing , ex students , staff and members of the managing committee. The renowned artist Lopamudra Mitra and Dohar group will perform as well and add to enrich our programme. Existing, outgoing, ex students, teaching, non teaching staff, members of the managing committee and persons interested in education are earnestly requested to attend the programme and join us in making the memorable occasion a grand success.
